Team Pontikak was born after I watched the 2006 Scumball event on Sky TV and decided that I wanted to take part. The Scumball is very loosely based on the Gumball rally. Instead of roaring across exotic countries in supercars Scumballers drive from Donnington race circuit (UK) to Nurburgring race circuit (Germany) in cars worth less then £1000, a round trip of 1000 miles, all in aid of charity.
The ideal Scumball car (in my opinion) has to be:
1. Cheap - really cheap
2. Rear wheel drive
3. Reliable
4. Economical
5. Unusual -we want to get noticed
6. Did I mention cheap?
Eventually I ignored most of the above and bought a 1984 Pontiac Trans Am (well I've always been a Knightrider fan). It had been standing for about 8 years and needed a little "fettling" but it had a 5 litre V8, a manual gearbox and nice chrome wheels.
